Maeve longs to become reunited with her children who remain in Africa in the care of their domineering father. he takes them back to his homeland in Lebanon and marries the young girl who has been taking care of his children. During a series of misadventure he puts her life in danger as well as his own. They both die, leaving the children without parents. Their aunt has been keeping Maeve informed of developments leading her to become hopeful that she might eventually get them all back to London. The middle east is on high alert and the boys in particular are vulnerable within the strict nature of their educational endeavors. One of the boys in particular, like his father, has become quite regimented and volatile. He has leanings towards fundamentalist principles. Their mother eventually becomes reunited with them and brings them back to London. They carry on their lives with the usual challenges of domestic routine. The sinister twists and turns of the story take the reader on a descriptive journey of suspense and discovery. Maeve feels her role of Mother is once again being established but it is not without serious challenge and worrying aspects.
