Extended description

When Angst turned 40, he knew it was over. Angst had longed to be a knight of Unsel, to make his mark in history, to be remembered for heroic deeds and wondrous acts. He grew up knowing he was destined for something great, but now it is too late. Not only is 40 far too old to become a knight, Angst is one of the few able to wield “the magics”.

For 2,000 years magic has been outlawed, repressed, even outright destroyed throughout the world of Ehrde. By law, Angst is reduced to using his great power only to file papers. His marriage is on the rocks, his friends are bored with him, and he hates his job. The one person that makes him happy is the young Princess Victoria who seems to adore him. Take a wizard who is younger in charm than he is in age, a dangerous level of flirt on top of that, and then put him in the center of a party that he is bound to mess up by simply being either. What you will get is a sword that is going to sing you into a sticky soup of trouble and a Queen who now hates you enough to send you on a quest to save the kingdom. Where you hopefully die in trying.

It's a good thing Angst is also old enough to come with some wit to almost save his life and maybe the lives of many more while he's at it. Succeeding might become his more formable adversary, as he is after the title of knight to make his dreams come true.

Angst is a well written and very fun read. I was laughing from the start right into the monster bits of it all when things became more of a challenge. If you feel up to it, quit your desk job, grab your best buddies by royal decree and follow after Angst and Chryslaenor. Evil magic is coming for you, and only magic users stand a chance at stopping it before it gets any bigger.
