Unlike Lenrie Peter's poetic rendition of this title in We Have Come Home, where those "From the bloodless wars, with sunken hearts" had their "Boots full of pride," Ekoyata's lot in The Homecoming was different. He was repatriated from the United States on issues not more than racial bias. And he decided to settle in his home town which turned out to be an encounter with reality: Water was not running in the pipes meant for it. Schools had leaking roofs. Roads were becoming impassable. Electricity was painfully epileptic Health care was inadequate. People were dying young in large numbers from preventable diseases. Youths were restive and moving to towns and cities. Buildings were collapsing as the rural areas were abandoned and neglected. The fear of witches was rife, corruption everywhere with assassins on the prowl. Development projects had all failed.. The pains of alienation brought from the US vanished rapidly with a fresh ambition - to assist in the development of his land of origin and improve the welfare of his people. He posed endless questions to his aged aunt, Obehi, who painted the misfortune of the village in native riddles.
Ekoyata eventually found Okojie, an insider, the former scribe of the Town's Union. This man was a rebel of a sort. He has strong aversion to the corruption and lack of focus in the union. He was quick to buy into Ekoyata's vision. they struck friendship. The union's scribe totored him on the behemoth nature of the problems of Iyala and the ineptitude of its leaders.
Ekoyata's, armed with good education, very fat bank account and a strong desire to turn around this misfortune of willful neglect, callous corruption, gruesome assassination, little realized, he has put himself at risk as the next victim of assassination. But it was not clear whether his friendship with Okojie, a stranger, will prevent the angry caucus from finding his corpse. Action-packed novel, with the thrill of romance, adventure, and keen justice.
