Dan Cord gets double-crossed, then double-crossed again, and double-crossed a third time.
After the first time, when he's framed as a killer, a lawman believes in him, gets him out of jail, and sends him off on a goose chase without clearing his name. He goes back home and sees his girl, but neither her nor her family believe he's innocent. He has to push on.
Dan clings to his honesty and his values as things go from bad to worse, and the deputy who first arrested him turns out to be in the pay of the man who framed him. Then he get tied in with a dirty Texas Ranger (who'd ever believe a Texas Ranger could be turned?) and has to face off with him.
Can Dan Cord get out of this odyssey alive? Can he get his good name back? And will the girl he loves even speak to him when it's all over?
Excellent storytelling by one of the masters -- Jory Sherman.
