A demon’s bite cursed her…Now Raven Grace walks the line between Other and humanity, all with a special purpose…

Raven Grace was a college senior with ambitions of a career in law enforcement when she met the demon Aega, whose bite turned her from mortal to Shapeshifter. Now a member of the Recovery Organization, Raven keeps the peace between humans and errant Hellhounds, trolls, wizards and the like while trying to track down Aega and bring him to justice. After a particularly dicey encounter one night with a Hellhound, she goes to the aid of a girl who’s been attacked and near death—and is amazed to find Aega’s bite mark on the girl’s arm. Determined to get to the bottom of this, she revisits the victim’s apartment and there discovers her closet is a portal to a parallel universe, where people she knows lead vastly different lives. She also gets a glimpse of the Recovery Captain there—a six foot, redheaded Scotsman named Finn McPhee, whose sexy accent and ev.. (Read more)

Paranormal readers will love Raven's Kiss, this book has it all; action, magic, paranormal creatures, alternate dimensions, and even romance. The heroine of the story is Raven, a woman whose life was turned upside down in 1 night, when she was bitten by a demon. The bite turned Raven into a shape-shifting demon herself, and instead of becoming a cop for the police, she is now a cop for the Recovery Organization, the paranormal police. Raven is full of pent up anger and the need for vengeance, her attacker was never found and she resents how her new life was thrust on her. In search of her attacker, who has been attacking even more women, Raven will go anywhere, even to an alternate dimension. In the alternate dimension, Raven finds that she plays a very important role in her attacker demon's plans. Raven must accept who she is and face her demons to save not only herself, but her friends, and life as she knows it.

Raven's Kiss is a very fun book to read, the characters are entertaining and easy to like. The paranormal elements are diverse (there are all kinds of supernatural creatures) and the world in the book is very creative, the supernatural blend well with the mortal world. I love the concept of the alternate dimension in Raven's Kiss, this unique concept gives the story that extra something, the world gets more intriguing. In the alternate dimension, there are the same characters as in the original dimension, but they have made different life choices, and are therefore different people, with different personalities. I really like Finn, the leader of the Recovery in the alternate dimension, and Raven's new crush. They work well together, and for the most part, their relationship is believable.

I did have some minor issues near the end of Raven's Kiss. When lives are on the line, and time is of the essence, Raven and Finn take some time out for themselves. I found this just really unrealistic, and rolled my eyes a bit. In the later part of the book, some of the magic and happenings were a bit over-the-top as well. However, despite these minor issues, I really enjoyed the book.

Raven's Kiss is action packed, never slow, and always entertaining. The romance in this book is not excessive, it fits the story and all that Raven is going through. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next for Raven. I will read more from Toni LoTempio in the future. Readers who like paranormal, urban fantasy books will likely enjoy reading Raven's Kiss.

My review:

I was excited to read Toni LoTempio’s book, because I read some reviews prior to the book. I did not have to be disappointed!

Plot:

Meet Raven – she has been bit by Demon Aega and she is seeking her revenge. She is working in the Recovery Organization, which deals with supernatural criminals and bad guys. She hopes that her work in the Recovery helps her to find Aega. One day Raven comes across another girl who is bitten by Demon Aega and Raven wants to get into the bottom of this. Thanks to the portal to parallel universe she travels to another world to continue her search for Aega. On the other universe she finds so much more, especially Finn who is very attractive Scot and Raven finds herself quite attracted to him. It doesn’t help that he can actually read her mind. Together they need to find a solution to Raven’s identity and also catch Aega and an unknown dark and powerful enemy.

I liked the plot and I loved the aspect of parallel universe. I think it was brilliant! I enjoyed how characters were described by the author differently in the parallel universe; they were like different persons and personalities. It gave so much extra excitement to this book!

Characters:

I could not understand Raven. I think she was overly annoying and unpleasant in the beginning. She acted like spoiled brat. I liked her personality much better after she met Finn. It seemed that author tried too hard to create her, so Raven did not seem natural.

Finn was a sweet guy. I liked him from the moment he appeared in the book. Sweet, nice, flirting – a perfect match to Raven!

Generally:

Raven’s Kiss by Toni LoTempio was a good paranormal romance book. There were well described characters, interesting plot and a lot of fun to read!
4 stars out of 5.

I really enjoyed this intense and fast paced read by Toni LoTempio. The main lesson I learned from this book is what we are all told, never judge a book by its cover! I never would have picked this book up on the shelf, but I would have missed out if I hadn't gotten a hold of it. It definitely borders the young adult/adult genre lines to me but with the rather heated (but few, really just 1) love scenes I would classify it as adult.

Raven is an agent who is all business, works herself to death and is forced to take a break, but trouble just has a way of finding her. She ends up involved in a case that affects her personally and feels she has to close it now.

LoTempio uses parallel universes, which reminded me of the TV show Fringe (loved that!), something new for me in a book. We all know I love strong female leads, and Raven is not lacking. She is a powerful shapeshifter who can take the form of any animal. Finn, our hot bod of a man with a scottish accent has drool worthy written all over him.

The story moves so fast, there is never a dull moment. I loved the suspense throughout and the detective work involved in reading it. I tried to be one step ahead of the characters and figure out what was going on, but LoTempio continued to amaze.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review!
