Laura, 14, and her brother Mike, 12, are walking in the Badlands of South Dakota when a mysterious time-storm sweeps them 12,000 years into the past, a time when the Badlands were lush and wet. They meet a cave-dwelling Stone Age family. Their first task is finding out what happened to them and how to get back to the twenty-first century. A pair of unscrupulous archaeologists have followed them into the past. When the kids discover that the archaeologists intend to return with a member of the family, dead or alive, they realize they have put the family at risk.
