I received this book from the Author for an honest review.

I love a good Paranormal story and the Author has weaved a wonderful one in the Guardian. Nephillium, Vampires, Werewolves, witches this book has them all and it is up to one human woman with special powers to control them all as the Venatorcustos the Guardian. What a great imagination the Author has that can take a story from the Witch trials of Massachusetts to the Hippie movement in America then finally down under during present day. We witness death, love, laughter, magic, rebirth, friendship, deception and above all good old fashion romance! Absolutely charming story!

Hannah, is Guardian of all the Crudelitas as her mother and grandmother were before her. It is up to her to keep the balance and make sure none of the Crudelitas get out of control. As a young woman just coming into her powers, she is witness to her mother's demise at the hands of Peter, the father of her best friend Gabriel. She has feelings for Gabriel that she is just starting to understand when fate steps in and she finds her duty as the Venatorcustos takes precedent over her happiness as Gabriel is taken from her. But someone is behind her mother's death and she vows to track them down! Centuries later Hannah makes a wrong move and finds herself thrust back into the arms of someone she thought long dead, Gabriel. But all is not as it was, and Hannah decides it is for the best that she makes another sacrifice to start over. With a twist in plot, the Author now transforms Hannah into a new roll that has her the happiest since her own early childhood until her past catches up to her and she must face not only her past with her mother's killer, but those of the men who love her.

I am looking forward to the next story in this series as well as other works by this Author. A must read for Paranormal enthusiasts who like a bit of romance too!

I was given this book in return for an honest review. This story starts 5 years before the Salem witch trials and ends in the early 21st century. Hannah is The Guardian, she's responsible for keeping all the supernatural beings in order. She is also a healer, a witch, and an immortal(she can be killed like any other human though she just doesn't die a natural death). Hannah and Gabriel are best friends and a little something more, she thinks he is long dead, but still thinks of him everyday. Bernard, is a Warlock, who has always loved Hannah's mother and who is always there for Hannah. Hannah makes decisions through the years that have consequences. Revenge, burnout, sorrow, all have played a part in her decisions. She has to find a way to come back and right the problems that her decisions have caused. While doing so she is going to come against some nasty creatures as well as finding some old friends, and some long buried secrets. This book has Nephilym, vampires, werewolves, mermaids, fairies, witches, and a great story, that keeps you pinned to the book. Wonderful!!

I was given this book from the author to give an honest review.

Gillian Joy has amazing talent. I got into this book from the first page. This is not your typical paranormal book that deals with witches, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, fairies, and nephilim. This concept is one I have never read before and I am glad I was given the chance to read this book.

Guardian is filled with love, action, some suspense. I found myself going "oh my so didn't see that part coming."

Guardian is about a girl name Hannah it starts off around the year 1675, and gives you a little bit of background for the story. Hannah has a secret that she wants to tell her best friend Gabriel. Hannah would be following in her mother's footsteps of being a protector and keeper of all supernatural beings also known as Crudelitas. Then something tragic happens to Hannah, and she makes it her mission in life to hunt down the supernatural being that caused her pain. I am not going to go into in more details because then I would feel as though I am giving away so much of the book.

Give this book a read because you will not be disappointed, I would honestly give this book more than 5 stars if I could because Guardian deserves it. Can not wait to start book two in this series.

I have to admit that I couldn’t wait to start reading this book, as the cover completely stole my heart. The blurb held a lot of promise and I excitedly jumped right in and got to reading “Guardian”, the first opportunity I got. I felt slightly disappointed at the end, because the book didn’t meet my expectations.

I found the first half of the book to move at an excruciatingly slow pace, but once past Chapter thirteen, it picked up considerably and so much happens that it makes your head spin. I wasn’t too fond of Hannah though, as I’m not a big fan of characters who often have temper tantrums to get their point across. Similarly, I also wasn’t very impressed with Gabriel and Jesse’s characters either, as weak male characters aren’t to my liking. But that is just my personal taste.

Another let down for me was the bad editing, and I feel a really terrific editor would make a world of difference to this book. Overall – and bad editing aside – this is a well-written book with a really great storyline that intrigues the imagination from start to finish. The reader is taken on a journey into a world that spans over three hundred years, and gets to meet a plethora of supernatural beings and other wonderful and loveable secondary characters you can’t help rooting for.

Even though “Guardian” wasn’t much to my liking mainly due to the distracting grammar errors - and therefore the three stars; it is still a pleasant read that can be enjoyed by many fans of the YA paranormal genre.

Guardian was a great read! I really enjoyed the storyline--an interesting twist on the vampire/werewolf/witch legends that we all know and love. I thought the characters were compelling. I especially liked the relationship between Gabriel and Hannah. The way this first book ends definitely makes me curious about what comes next, and I hope to read book two soon.

While I can wholeheartedly give the story 4 stars, I'd have to give the editing only about 3. I spent many years as a freelance proof reader, so I tend to always have that mode turned on in my brain when reading, even if it's just when I'm reading for my own pleasure. Grammar & spelling errors tend to interfere with my enjoyment of any book I'm reading. I think with a good proofing, this book could be well on its way to a 5-star rating!

Full disclosure: I received a free e-book copy of this book, in exchange for my willingness to write a review. Thanks, Gillian, for the opportunity to read and review your book. I look forward to the next installment in the series!

Review by: Charlayne Elizabeth Denney on May 21, 2012 :
Hannah inherits the role of Guardian from her mother when she is burned as a witch in Salem in the 1600’s. The Guardian keeps the Crudelitas, those supernatural beings in the human world like vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks, and the like, from harming the humans or each other. Wielding great power, she is able to kill with energy alone, talk from great distances into someone’s head, and project herself into a familiar place from a distance.

But she can also give her heart to someone, experience loss by death, and frustration. She has those who love her enough to follow her, wait for her, and to die for her. She fights her feelings for two of the Crudelitas, believing she should never be with them in love. Will she ever find someone that will fulfill that spot for her?

Meantime, the one who ordered her mother’s death is still alive after 300 years, there is chaos brewing in the Crudelitas society, and someone is looking for her to kill her. She doesn’t have long to find who is behind all of the trouble before she believes she will die and the next Guardian will take over.

I really loved this book. Gillian Joy has given The Guardian a lot of plot twists and turns, several changes to the story and it kept me guessing how she was going to end it. She really packed in the surprises, I would think I had her story figured out and then “Surprise!” she would have Hannah or one of the other characters do something that would completely change what I thought would happen. While Hannah has a love life, it wasn’t graphic so the book is suitable for teens as well as adults who want a great story. And the next in the series, Forever, is out so you have the chance to keep going on Hannah’s adventure.

I must admit I had a hard time putting this book down. Gillian Joy did a fantastic job weaving actual events into this fictional story.

We are first introduced to Hannah and her mother, who have an intriguing (and at times heart-wrenching) relationship. The death of her mother threw her through a loop just as she was learning how to be the guardian of the supernatural world.

While she lost her way for a while, she spent a long time getting her life back on track. I don’t want to ruin too much if the story, but finding out that some people from her old life survived really made my day!

The different species of supernatural beings also caught (and kept) my attention. This story has witches, werewolves, vampires, nephilim, fairies, angels, and more! Some of my favorite things!

I have to say, the wait for the next book is going to be a very long one, and I’ll be picking this book up again for several rereads in the future! It has everything! Fantastic characters, intriguing storyline, awkward love triangles, heartwarming relationships of all kinds, and several questions I will have a hard time waiting for the next book to have answered!

I love the book were to start with out spoiling the book um. Wen ever I stared reading the book I was confused with the Prologue "Are you sure?" he asked solemnly.
"Yes," I answered in rasping breaths. "Positive.""It's going to be about twenty-four hours of absolute agony," he stated.Jump to the end of prologue Then I felt the sting as he sunk his teeth in. I was intrigue I knew from the last sentence that I was going to LIKE the book. After a few chapter I was so in to the book that I couldn't put the book down. I admired Hannah strong Character from the beginning, not like the typical wining characters. Gabriel is so admiring even though he loves Hannah he is men enough to let Hannah decide for her self.I couldn't help but laugh, even get sad and want to cry. In some parts of the book I though okay I know whats next turn the page, slap in the face surprised by the twist and turns of events. Wen the Extended description from Smashwords says "Hannah flees her life in an attempt to start over." oh wow it is really a shock never thought in million years what it really meat. Surprised by what that really meant. Overall I LOVE Guardian it is full of surprises, intense moment, sad and happy moments.

In the 1600’s being 12 years of age wasn’t so young, in fact it was practically grown. People didn’t live as long as they do today and even minor illness could cause death. Superstitions also ran rampant and many things we take for entertainment like vampires, werewolves, and witches were the cause of real fears. But instead of being like every other girl her age Hannah knows that not only all of the superstitions positively real but she and her mother are from a long line of Guardians those who are here to keep all the crudelitas (supernatural) beings in line. But even with the power to destroy a crudelita with a single thought couldn’t help her from the jealousy and greed of normal humans.
Who knew just having a best friend would cause such problems but when your best friend’s father is truly cruel and vicious person it can lead to trouble. From one little kiss between Gabriel and Hannah, life would change drastically. Hannah would lose not only her mother but Gabriel as well…and the real question would always remain who was really behind it all because Gabriel’s father hadn’t been the only responsible.
Now 300 years and one whole lifetime later Hannah is finally on track to get the person who set up her mother and who had taken Gabriel from her for so long. Now with 3 Vamps, a witch, and a warlock on her side, Hannah is going to try to get revenge and try to keep everyone she loves safe.
This story is one of those that you pick up and you can’t put down, it’s just that great! I mean page 136 practically killed me and was one of the last things I expected. Not many people can catch me that off guard and it was one heck of a surprise. It’s like you don’t want to see the page numbers getting higher because it coming close to the end of the book and you don’t want the story to stop. I am dying for the sequel, I just have to know what happens next. This is one of those must reads…so go read it!

I absolutely loved Guardian! Gillian Joy has a wonderful way with words. I definitely recommend this book to others! It's a story that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go!

Guardian is a story about Hannah who is the guardian over all your paranormal creatures, vampires, werewolves, witches, nephilum, you name it Guardian has it. After her mother's death she set out on a search for the vampire responsible for having her mother killed. Along the way she gained the reputation of being a vampire hater/killer, something that changed after she is reunited with her childhood best friend. Together they set out to draw her mother's murderer out.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series! Definitely one of the best I have read this year.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were extremely likable and of course I loved Gabriel. Who doesn't love a sexy, hot, compassionate vampire? I had a few problems with the writing at times. It was sometimes a bit over simplistic and there were some grammar errors. I would have liked to read a bit about Gabriel's life in the 300 years before he met back up with Hannah. Maybe in a sequel or a spin-off. I think the story ended in the perfect spot, but not a major cliff-hanger. It definitely left you wanting to know what would happen next and how Hannah would deal with what she just learned. I will definitely be reading the next book.

But i was happy to be wrong, because I really enjoyed it. Once I really got into it i had a hard time putting it down. Hannah is an interesting character. Shes funny and kind, and genuinely warm-hearted. I like the jokes about how people can't help but fall in love with her when they meet her. I loved her relationship with Gabriel and his jealousy over everybody falling for her lol I cant wait to see them finally get together. I hope they do anyway lol I like Jesse "The impetuous vampire who she kinda sorta has a thing with." And i really hope Hannah gets the justice she wants. It was enjoyable, and well worth a read. The second I saw this cover I just KNEW that I had to read this series. Boy was that a great decision! The author has so skillfully developed these characters that you are just crazy if you don't fall in love with at least one of them! My favorite by far is Hannah. She is so feisty that you want to keep reading the book just to see what she comes up with next! I really hope that things develop more between her and one of the other characters :) Overall this book was great because you had all of the normal supernaturals roaming around, but didn't have the predictable Were/Vamp fighting throughout the entire book like most series. I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone. There is fun filled craziness for the action lovers and a somewhat love filled story for the romance lovers :)

The cover for this book is what first caught my eye, beautiful! This is the first book I have read by the author and she is now on my "must get a hold of her books" list. This book has a little bit of everything, vampires, werewolves, and witches, to name a few. It is refreshingly different from other books in it's genre that are out right now. I fell in love with Hannah right from the beginning. She is strong willed, independent, and can be a handful from time to time. The book revolves around Hannah and her journey of her "chosen" life. The ups, the downs, and everything in between. I felt every emotion each character did and have a special feeling for each of them. I could go on and on about Gillian's creativeness in this book, but find it hard to do so without spoiling for everyone. I loved this book and can't wait to get my hands on "Forever". I highly recommend this book to all paranormal addicts. The only thing you will regret is that you run out of pages.

You meet, and fall in love with, Hannah. She is strong when needed, sassy when needed, and all in all in LOVE with a boy she has grown up with. Gabriel loves Hannah, too. But it takes time to determine just how much so. From every page, the love pours out of this book. You can feel just how much Gillian loved the characters. You get sucked in, and never want to be released. This is an absolute must read! I know I couldn't stop!

Review 6 out of 5

Hannah always knew she would follow her mother to become the Guardian, the keeper and protector of all supernatural beings. She didn't expect to have to endure the horrific death of her mother first hand. She did not expect that it would mean that she was unable to be with the man she loved.
Gabriel was her childhood friend, but would circumstances prevent her from exploring her true feelings?
Jesse, the incorrigible vampire would give anything to be with her, but as the Guardian, Hannah is forbidden to fall in love with a supernatural.
Unable to exact revenge for her mother's death and struggling to deal with the conflicting feelings she has for both Gabriel and Jesse, Hannah flees her life in an attempt to start over. There is no escaping destiny however. Can Hannah reconcile her commitment to her family with her responsibility and duty as the Guardian?

I absolutely LOVED this story! It had me gripped from the first page. Gillian has created a fabulous world for all supernatural's to live! Hannah is a feisty, headstrong character. She is fantastic as the Guardian, or Venatorcustos. She has to deal with all supernatural beings from werewolves, fairies, mermaids and witches to vampires. These are also known as Crudelitas.
Gabriel is another great character. He is sweet and kind, and also gorgeous to look at! Jesse is not quite the opposite of Gabriel; he is kind and gorgeous too, but he tends to be a bit hotheaded, which can cause problems due to his impulsiveness. The other characters in the book are very interesting too. I would actually like to read Bernard's story, if Gillian would consider writing it! This story is set in different time lines, but it doesn't leave you confused. Gillian's writing style is very smooth and I could easily picture what was happening in my head. I'm now looking forward to reading the second novel, Forever, as soon as I can get my hands on it! I would highly recommend everyone read this book as soon as possible.

Review by: Melissa Ringsted on Jan. 01, 2012 :
Hannah is the girl next door. She is pretty, some would even say very pretty. She has as best friend, a boy named Gabriel. He is the IT boy in town. His father is the sheriff and thus a truly influential man. And so begins the story, like most other stories, with a boy and a girl. Oh and a kiss.

But Hannah is not the girl next door. She is pretty yes, but she has a destiny. She is the Guardian - the Venatorcustos. She was born from a line of Guardians. Her mother, Susannah served the world in this capacity for 600 years and her mother before her, well maybe as long as 3000 years. Hannah has a past, a destiny and a responsibility that could cost her everything she holds dear.

Guardians are responsible for Crudelitas! They are to make sure that they do not harm humans, that they do not take dominance over some group or the other. She is the keeper of order. Tough job when dealing with Vampires, mermaids and witches to name but a few! Oh sorry. Did I did mention that Fairies and werewolves and such are indeed Crudelitas? Luckily Hannah is born with all the collective memory of every proceeding Guardian.

But Hannah's memory could not save the life of her mother, her super human powers could do nothing to save the life of her father Jonathan and her love did nothing to change the fate of her beloved Gabriel!

Structurally Guardian is fast paced and entertaining. The character development of Hannah and Bernard is especially endearing. Hannah is truly human. The little girl grows up to be a willful young woman and with that comes temper tantrums and impatience. Hannah is most certainly very human, and I loved this aspect of the story. Bernard, a character introduced nearly at the start of the book, is portrayed as eccentric and loveable. He is a grandfatherly type with hidden depths that I myself can't wait to learn more about in the next book of this trilogy. One character however never goes through any growth. I found that puzzling since the characterization of main and peripheral characters are expertly done through out the book. The character of Gabriel however shows a complete lack of growth. But it soon dawned on me that the answer is simple. Gabriel is perfect! He can't get any more perfect. I found this a brilliant characterization move on Gillian part and loved Gabriel all the more for his state of being eternally perfect and eternally Hannah's first and only love.

I really loved reading the book. Peripheral characters are introduced with regular intervals and the depths of their roles in the story fully explored. The characters are either very human, very Angelic, perfectly perfect or truly evil. Very little grey areas exists in the world of the Guardian and this contrast to the real world is expertly revealed later on in the book when Hannah's' real life and her life as a Guardian meets in the living room of her house in Australia.

I always feel as if I should choose my words carefully when doing a review as not to give out spoilers. With Guardian I find it especially difficult since it is indeed a tangled web Gillian wove. I highly recommend Guardian to any lover of YA Paranormal literature and give it a six out of five scale rating. Not only do I recommend the book to readers but I would happily gift it to my best friend to read and enjoy.

Excellent book :D Hannah's mom is killed for being a witch, by the way she is not a witch. They are guardian's, but get this, guardians for all of the paranormal beings on Earth. Wow, after watching and feeling her mother's death Hannah goes on a rampage to kill vampires and find the one responsible for the death of her mother. Not only does it have this awesome action it also has love that never dies. Centuries can not take the love from them that started when they were just young children. Will they ever be together? I love the ending unexpected, but yet I kinda figured this was going to happen, something told me this is what Bernard has been hiding from her for awhile. This story is so well put together and has so many wonderful characters. I so can't wait to read part 2.

Guardian contains all the supernatural you could possibly want and more. There are vampires, witches, werewolves and more!! Guardian has them all.... And at the heart of it all is Hannah who is incredibly strong willed and independent. She is sassy and not someone that you want to mess with!! ......And Gabriel who has loved her since he was just a boy. His is a love that even time and distance could not waiver.....

Guardian was an incredibly easy read because of the depth of the characters and Gillian Joy's ability to draw you into her story. Guardian is a must read and I cannot wait to see where book 2 will take us!!

The very minute my eyes were laid upon the delicious paranormal feast that is "Guardian" I knew there was no putting this incredible story down and that's exactly what happened I started reading yesterday on and off once I reached chapter 4 I couldn't put it down again I read till 2 am then couldn't sleep because I had to know what was going to happen ... My eyes eventually betrayed me and sleep won but no sooner than I woke I had "Guardian" back in my hands and greedily finished it.... "Guardian" has a delectable spread of the supernatural and has a amazing story line and well written strong & dependable Characters ..... Of Course I fell madly in love with one of the characters after all "Boys in books are just better" Gabriel (my love interest) is a well developed character who really portrays that no matter what happens in life or where our paths lead us that true love endures no matter the length of time or distance! ....Hannah is strong , independent and a little bit too stubborn and self sacrificing but she is goodhearted and always has the best of intentions .... While there are many more endearing characters Hannah & Gabriel were the ones who stood out to me and captured my heart! I will be anxiously awaiting book 2 in this series because I'm left with alot of questions and assumptions that I can't wait to find out!
I give Guardian 5 out of 5 stars
And it my recommendation if you haven't read it then start NOW !
