"I had a very strange dream about the sea coming right up to our house, so that the garden turned into a beach. Wouldn't it be fantastic - I'd give anything for that."
But Athene Groves, and her brother and sister, find it anything but fantastic - especialy when the sea doesn't stop at the garden, or even the house, but goes on to swallow up everything familiar to them. Alone in a strange world they must investigate the mysterious city that has appeared out of the mists like an illustration from a fairy tale. But like all fairy tales this one has a dark side, and they quickly discover that the city is in peril, finding themselves drawn into the struggle to save it.
