Interview with A. E. Murphy

Published 2014-05-13.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Nothing, I hate getting out of bed. Me and the morning are not on good terms right now :')
But to save face as a doting mother, I'll say my kids inspire ( read 'force') me to get out of bed each day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
See previous question.
Answer = sleeping
And occasionally ice skating (badly) and cooking (brilliantly) and forcing the kids to do the dishes because I'm allergic to any kind of cleaning.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly through my friends saying, "YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!" So I'll go, "OKAY!" And read the book...
Or through blogs and Facebook book pages.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! It was about a cat knocking over a cauldron and killing the witch and everyone rejoicing. (I was six and I won the class competition. That's big stuff right there.)
What is your writing process?
Brain activate. Fingers to keys and type.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Treasure island is the first adult novel I ever read, I was about nine years old and I got it from the charity shop for 50p. I remember thinking... this is a boy book. But I read it anyway.
How do you approach cover design?
I have an awesome cover artist called Luke Bailey. I tell him what I want and we work through it together.
What do you read for pleasure?
Hehe...
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have Kindle on my phone. I also have a kindle fire HD 8.9 which is beautifully sat on my shelf waiting for its fourth use. I like gadgets, buy them and never use them. It's an obsession.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I don't think there's an answer to this because when you market a book you use, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Goodreads, etc. All at the same time. So how can you know which one is the most effective?
Describe your desk
It's big, it's brown and it looks like an L shaped sofa...
Probably because it is :D
When did you first start writing?
How long is a piece of string?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have a tendency to act without thinking. I wrote the book and thought, should I put it on Amazon?
Hell yes.
So I did.
There was literally no thought process other than that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get to be somebody else for a while and if you've read my books you'll know how hot my male characters are. Nom!
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! They have the ability to bring you up and the ability to crush you. Everybody is different and I enjoy hearing them. I've met some amazing people and I have no doubts that I'll meet even more.
xxx
What are you working on next?
Raw, gritty and real BDSM. None of that, "I don't want to be punished" and more of that, "You were late, pick out a cane." ;)
Who are your favorite authors?
Kristen Ashley at the moment.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I lived in Skegness until I was nine and then moved to Cleethorpes. My experiences in these two different places have been amazing, beautiful, devastating, trying, completing, heartbreaking... The more you learn in life, the more you have to share, I believe this is also linked to writing. (If that makes sense)
Thank you for allowing us to interview you, you're awesome, amazing, brilliant...
Don't forget beautiful and quirky!!

(Yep, I wrote this question myself. What of it?) [Even though it's not a question...]

:D xx
Much love
