Interview with Alese Eden

Published 2016-07-31.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Seeing where my characters will lead me today. I can't wait to get to work and find out what they have been up to.
What are you working on next?
A Reason For Love is a good clean and wholesome love story based on a woman and her niece. Their evening conversations reveal a past that was long buried and provides the younger woman with some vital answers to her own questions about love.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, playing piano, listening to music and cooking for family
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My first full length novel was A Chance Meeting, written in the 1980s. I loved that story from start to finish and especially identified with the characters.
What is your writing process?
Whatever comes to mind as I sit at the computer. I can be working on three different stories at a time. One will lead me to include details in another. I love it!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
A Time to Kill by John Grisham, while it was his first it was not my first read but the one that had the most impact. His writing style made me want to keep turning those pages till I was done. Not to mention the storyline. Wow! Now that was powerful.
How do you approach cover design?
Cover design is usually from a scene from the book. I have some wonderful photographs that I can incorporate and change to suit the mood of the story.
Describe your desk
A mess, mostly, especially when I am in writing mode. I have old scraps of paper with hand written notes and others that were typed on a conventional typewriter all relating to the stories I am working on at the time. I look out across semi-tropical gardens and can see the blue ocean in the distance. That's magic and inspiring.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Australia and have lived in various parts, cities, small country towns and remote outback locations. I try and bring a little of Australia, the Australian way of life and its country into each of my stories.
When did you first start writing?
When I was 15 and falling in love for the first time, I kept a daily journal. Over the years I have referred back to the journal to create my characters and stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A young couple meet by chance in the 1980s. They both have a love of gardens and landscaping and find themselves drawn to each other even though their paths had been heading in different directions. There is a chemistry between them they find hard to resist.
