Interview with Alyssa Rose Ivy

What's the story behind your latest book?
I've always loved space opera, especially the romantic kind. With the Half Light, I finally have the opportunity to write a romantic space opera with a Mature YA/ New Adult feel. The first three books in the series are available now.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I first indie published back in 2011. At the time I was working on a non trendy book I knew I'd struggle to find a traditional home for. At the same time I was discovering lots of wonderful Indie authors. I decided to take the chance, and I shared Beckoning Light with the world.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I've been publishing with Smashwords since I first started publishing in 2011. It's allowed me to reach platforms I could never reach on my own. Fifty books later, I am so glad I discovered Smashwords in the beginning.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love exploring new characters and settings. It's always exciting!
What do your fans mean to you?
I am grateful for each and every one of my readers! I am thrilled to be able to share my stories.
What are you working on next?
I'll be releasing more in the Pteron Chronicles and the Corded Saga.
How do you approach cover design?
Sometimes I get the cover before I start writing. Other times I wait until I'm closer to the end product. I've been lucky to work with so many wonderful designers over the years.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing for as long as I remember. I specifically remember my true passion for it blooming in the third grade.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my family, listening to music, getting out in nature, and watching a good movie. If I can mix in a nice cup of coffee that's a plus.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I love getting personal recommendations. I also have a list of go-to authors I always return to.
