Interview with Douglas Smith

Published 2014-05-14.
What is your writing process?
I am a SOTP (seat of the pants) writer. Sometimes I will sit down and just write 500 words and then there are times when I will sit down and write 3,000 words. The funny thing is no matter how many words get written it never feels like a lot and it never feels like a long time has elapsed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me I have found writing to be fun and enjoyable because I love to read and I love storytelling. A good story, a bad story, or anything in between. I love the way characters come alive on the pages as you read and write.
Describe your desk
My desk would be my version of organized kaos, except for when I am writing. When I am writing I tend to have a clean desk because I do not wnat to be distracted by shiny things on or around my work area..
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I think that the complete control over your project is what motivated me to become an indie author. I can take my work in any direction I want with complete control. That's powerful.
How do you approach cover design?
I have experience with graphic design so I like to design my own covers. I like to keep them simple with two or three colors if possible.
