Interview with Joe Fowler

Published 2016-02-16.
What do you read for pleasure?
Most anything! I grew up reading horror and the classics. Now, I enjoy everything from the Twilight series to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I haven't met a book I didn't like.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in and around Mobile, Alabama. The people here are down to earth, family values centered people. I fashion the heroes of my stories as having many of these same values.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The Kindle has been my main choice. My computer comes in second as far as electronic books go.
Describe your desk
Cluttered. More room is taken up by music cds than writing related material. I like to listen to music that fits the mood of what I am writing at the time.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
With a lifelong love of books, the dream of becoming an author is naturally there. I had the opportunity and a few stories running through my head that I thought would make for entertaining books. I took the chance and now encourage everyone to do the same. It is a wonderful thing to see a book of your own being enjoyed by others.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Trying to give that same satisfaction from reading that has made my own life so much more enjoyable.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything
What's the story behind your latest book?
Titan's Story is a mix of gladiator style vampire fights laden with symbolisms to the human world. Every new vampire must face a ten fight gauntlet before they are free. This book shows Titan's journey as he sees the corruption running rampant and ends up facing much more than just fighting in the arena. I tried to make this an entertaining story while also adding some meaning to what is going on around the characters. I indulged myself somewhat and made almost every character and most every situation have a double meaning. I made sure the story flowed well enough for those readers that just want to be told a story.
What are you working on next?
Many strangers coming together to fight some unique dangers. A portal between worlds gives some unwanted bad guys access to our world. I have developed the characters and began the story but there is much more to go!
Who are your favorite authors?
All of them! I grew up reading Stephen King, Tolkien and Dean Koontz. I have read maybe a thousand books and have enjoyed almost all of them. Now that I have written six novels myself, I have a greater appreciation for each of those books.
