Interview with L. A. Piper

Published 2014-06-03.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I just enjoy getting my stories out of my head and on paper (so to speak). For me, there's something special about being a storyteller and I just hope others get enjoyment out of what comes crawling out of my brain.
What are you working on next?
I am currently writing a guidebook for high school seniors as they prepare to graduate. It's basically everything I wish I'd known when I graduated high school.
What is your writing process?
It used to be that whenever I got a new idea I would just sit down and start writing, and that leads to some shallow work. I still use that method for short stories because those are written just for fun anyway.

When I am working on something serious, I plan out everything important that will happen and then fill in between.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Honestly, the fact that my back hurts if I sleep too long, but when I really get thinking about it, every day is a gift from God. Each morning we wake up is a chance for a new experience and it is our responsibility to make the most of it.
Who is your favorite author?
My favorite author is Daniel Defoe. Yes his work is ancient, but it is timeless. I think it is amazing he managed to write things that are still able to be appreciated today.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Usually reading, but when I'm not reading, you can probably find me drawing. My plan is to create a web comic some day.
