Interview with M.D Khamil

Published 2016-12-27.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I've ever read was "The Sword In The Stone" by T.H White. I was captivated by the arthurian legend in this book, the world building, the magic system and of course the important of friendship and family values it taught by the end of the story. But the book that really had me inspired to be a writer was Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It was there my passion for reading and writing had begun.
When did you first start writing?
As a new writer in the block, I have no experience or training in writing before. To add more, English is not my native language. Everything I know about writing are self taught. You may find many grammatically errors in my writing, as I am the author and the editor as well (I can't afford one). As long as my readers understand what am I telling them in my stories, that is the most important part. I started writing my first book Z-Virus in 2014, when I realized there were not so many employment to choose from in the area where I live. So I hold on to this Principe "I must do something" to support myself. And now here it is, I completed my first book last year in July 2015, but not yet published. I only published my book in July 2016 after learning how to convert everything into eBook and I'm very happy about it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I don't like wasting time. Time is gold, and you can't get them back. When its gone, then its gone. Writing/reading filled my free time while at the same time gaining more inspiration, think far and big and start a new step to reach for that one goal, success.
How would you respond if you receive bad reviews on your books?
It's a good thing. Different people, different opinions. I can use those bad reviews to improve my self. Sometimes I receive bad reviews that are literally pulling me down such as "Don't bother reading this" or "Don't waste your money or time on this". When the fact that most of my books are available for free. Actually I'm glad, they criticized my work that they actually finished reading my story. That means as a writer, I successfully delivered my story to be told. Also, as I said before, English isn't my native language, all I know about English was being poured onto a piece of paper. I accept this as a challenge. How many people can read, write and speak my language? I bet non of native English speaker can do that. My first language is Malay and I'm proud to be able to read, write and speak a little bit English. I am learning each day to get better. Always believe in yourself. Don't give up.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Without them I'm nothing but just a regular man with an empty pocket. If I could have the opportunity to meet them, I'll be so happy to thank them in person, how important every one of them, because your readers are your supporting pillars. Without them, I'll fall down.
What are you working on next?
It'll be a surprised. Might be slow, but better late than never. Hugs.
