Interview with Marvin Schrebe

Published 2015-10-30.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me a way to publish that is fair, straight forward, and simple. I can publish in hours with Smashwords where traditional print publishers can take months.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy came when I saw a young woman moved to tears by something I wrote. She told me later that it changed her life for the better. I love those moments.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my biggest joy in life. They are my incentive to continue writing.
What are you working on next?
I will be writing a Bible study on the book of James.
Who are your favorite authors?
Robert Frost and Charles Dickens
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My Savior
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Mainly watching movies but I write about 12 hours per day.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I seldom have time for reading. If I do read it is something short, which I then review for the author.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No. I was in elementary school.
What is your writing process?
I usually just write from my brain. I use no outline.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. I read a Sally, Dick, and Jane story. I realized that the letters g o were a word. The word of course was "go".
How do you approach cover design?
I have a friend who does mine. Her name is Mari Tanada. She lives in Japan. I met her on another site I belong to. She makes the designs and emails them to me. I upload them to m PC and then to Smashwords.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. It is a cliffhanger and I love those.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read and review short stories and poetry on writing dot com.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle. It came with my smart phone.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Using Facebook.
Describe your desk
Cluttered. I need to clean it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in WV. The terrain is beautiful and I wrote a lot of poems about it.
When did you first start writing?
I was too young to remember. Probably around age 9.
