Interview with S.E. Batt

Published 2013-10-18.
What do your fans mean to you?
A lot, obviously. They're the ones who are supporting me on every step I make as I write silly and funny stories. Making them laugh is a fantastic feel for me.
Who are your favorite authors?
Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Tom Holt, Jonathon Gould, Neil Gaiman, Lazette Gifford, J.A. Marlow, Necia Phoenix, and Ashe Elton Parker.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The ability to write a silly, funny, downright ridiculous story, and bring a smile to the face of those who reads them. That's always a treasure.
Describe your desk
We don't describe that.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking about writing. Plotting my writing. Swearing very loudly and drawing my notebook dedicated to writing. You ever had an idea fly out the window because you weren't fast enough with the pen and pencil? It's a nightmare.
What is your writing process?
I sit down and write. There's really not much to it.

People like to take sides with the Plotters vs Pantsers argument, but I see both as valuable tools. I will plot when I see the chance to, and I will pants when I don't. I don't want to sit on an outline because I'm too scared to pants, but I also don't want the story to drift off into obscurity because I didn't want to plot.
How do you approach cover design?
Simple, but effective. I don't like very busy covers. I prefer them to be very simple in design. Sometimes, the greatest art asset on the cover will be the title itself. It's a lot of fun to see what kind of simple yet effective ways of designing a cover I can come up with.
What are you working on next?
The next question, probably.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The sharing. I love to see people reading my work. Even better, I love to see people laughing at my work. That is, unless they're laughing at it because it's bad. Those moments make me very sad.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Browsing the Humor section. Yeah, I love humor a lot. I'm supposed to be reading all kinds of genres, but the funnys feel like home to me. I love how humor can be so different between each person.
Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
Hands in the air.
