Interview with Arcana Silvan

Published 2015-11-12.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read is a hard one. the shorts I was forced to read as a child were like see dick and Jane. the short ones that were for readers. Though My first favorite book was the lion witch and the wardrobe. By CS Lewis. He taught me the importance not only of imagination and creativity but of research and how to mess with history and facts to become your own. I think it was one of the first books I read all the way through and couldn't put it down till I was done. I have found many that taught me the joys of pulling away from the television and creating your own pictures through his books.
How do you approach cover design?
This was the hardest thing about my story. I asked my writing group and one had a friend of her daughter as a artist named yebel a sweet young woman perusing her passion in art. I understand about having to give up so much, because no one would back me up and support my dreams. I asked her to do my cover to help her pay with school. I gave her my short story and the first four chapters of the novel that will be out in September. she loved Gothic work but doesn't have a chances to do it much and was thrilled with the idea. It was a blessing to find this young artist at the beginning of her career.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1)Kershel's Dart, 2)Harry Potter and prisoner of askaban 3) Hunger Games 4) Dune, 5) Enders Game
All these books painted such a picture in my mind on the worlds they lived it. they took something, references and expanded them to create a beautiful places and stories. without telling everything. leaving the imagination in the hands of the beholder
What do you read for pleasure?
Books on the Paranormal, History and politics of the past. why because reminded us where we have been can remind us were we could go back if to if we are not careful.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle HD.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Not sure yet this is my first book. I am using the references from my friends at this point that do write as a guide what to do.
Describe your desk
Any place quiet I can put my headphones in and go to work. I seldom at home anymore.
When did you first start writing?
I was in fourth grade. they had writing contest to get your stories in the library published. I did several of these stories. the first was the Tale of the unicorn Princess. It was published then. in fifth grade the adventures of the roller skating club was published. I have been doing little things like that for years. Then I discovered Gaming and i could create character backgrounds and they got a little out of hand but always made the story more interesting...
What's the story behind your latest book?
for years I have been interested in Vampires and werewolves. I always thought they could be together. when people and authors said it was impossible. I was not interested in impossibilities. I was interested how to create an abomination. so I did research. the back ground came up but no characters for the story. So the story was put on the back burner for many years as I tried to find suggestible characters.
I sudden l remembered some of the gamers I gamed with and asked to use their charters and borough mine out of mothballs and started to tweak them to match the world I made for them. It worked better than I thought it was possible.
It is a short from one of the main Characters Vanessa Thorne. I used to Game with this character and had an extensive back ground on her. as my world evolved so did the two main characters Vanessa of course and Rattlesnake. the short was on one of the days i was trying to figure out a part in the main book on how something happens in Vanessa's life. I expanded it and made it into a preview for the novel in September
What motivated you to become an indie author?
well, that is simple. I desire to tell a story. Also adding a few of my personal ideas that can be read in the book. I wanted to describe what could become without balance. every book I write has this thing about upsetting the earth or our world's balance that we has human beings have done for so many years. Even we as humans if our diet is out of wake we become sick. we become over stressed our bodies show it. this is a different way to talk about the necessities of balance.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The chance for my imagination to get out on paper and let others read what is in my head. It sucks some days that one cant concentrate because there is a story wanting to get out. In that sense I want to bring joy and adventure to readers. Show them that there is another world underneath the one we see and hear every day. It does exist.
What are you working on next?
There are always three projects going at the same time. The sequel to Winters embrace has been going on since the editing processes begin. Another is the tittle is not been chosen. It has been hard because it's inspired by real events but the story and the people are changed. I have some work to do..
Who are your favorite authors?
To many to count... JK Rolling. of course. Scott Cunningham. frank herbert
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Writing is what gets me out of bed in the morning. It is the real reason I still am going.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Im a psychic. So I do readings for people and house clearings. I help people and Teen's who are learning how to handle their gifts and sensitivities. Growing up psychic was difficult but unlike most I had a loving Great Grandmother who helped in my childhood. I teach parents how to help their children live.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
FB gives me a lot of suggestions on what to read next. I am part of a lot of book clubs that recorded things. It helps. then I have other friends who are authors and I get ideas from them. Those people in my life gave me the courage to get my stories out there.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, It won a prize in school. It was the legend of the Four lost unicorns. I have it still... a Copy of it anyway. It reminds me of some of the odder stories I have written.
What is your writing process?
I like backgrounds. I start with the world. then I build characters like I was in a game... Being a gamer it comes naturally.... to fill the world. I have even plaid the stories I write to give me ideas on where characters might go in those sinarios. I have had lots of help. Then once it is done I find someone to help edit... and we go to town and get it done.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Tri-cities Washington. when I was a kid there wasn't much to do. I used my imagination to take me to places and took my friends with me
