Interview with Jimi Alan

How do you approach cover design?
I created the cover of Project Royalty Codes: ReCreation when I was around sixteen years old. I have taken many design classes, which made me realize what a cover of a book should look like. But Project Royalty Codes: ReCreation's cover stays the same as it's original cover was. You might wonder why because it was created at the same time of the original story. To me, that means that the cover of the original story.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read romance and thrillers, with a few adventures on the side.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Just try to get what you're working on out there. Find out where your audience is and try to connected with them.
Describe your desk
It's an old oak desk with books flowing over the top. The section of the desk that I use for writing is scratched up from my unstable mind. There is a section of the desk missing in the back. I think that there is supposed to be something there. But all that remains is a couple of holes. There are toys on my desk, not the little ones you get at a carnival. No. Not one of those. There more expensive. You could call them plushies. One is a giraffe, which was a present from a friend that's far away.
In other words, it's a modern desk made out of oak, which I got when I live in a campus dormitory.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was around ten-year-old. I was such a creative kid that I used to write stories about my toys. I still have a few of them on my desk.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my last book is that you can be faced with many frightening obstacles in life. But as long as you keep on pushing ahead, you'll get through it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I guess that I would say, learning about my character. Yes, I am the creator of them, but there are particular things that my character won't do. I have to say, learning from them, is what give me the most joy.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to me. I can't say that enough.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a series, by myself. My fellow co-writer, Ja Starr won't be helping me with this series. But there will be some familiar faces.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That's a tough one, I would have to say, my three F's. My family, my friends and my fans.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I do photography as a hobby, mostly. But I am also a film student, so I spend a lot of my time studying and working on school projects.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I normally go to Indigo or Chapters and see what new.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about Dylan Lee-Ericson. I named the series, (because I wrote two sections of it) Dylan Lee-Ericson. The first book, I titled Highlight. The Second book, I called The Black River. It's pretty similar to Project Royalty Codes. And I think that I might publish it, one day.
What is your writing process?
I think of an idea, then a character. Then I create the world that this character will be in. I make a plan of what the story will be about, with who will be the villains, when they will be introduced and I work from there. I do like to keep a few things loss so that the story changes as I'm writing it.
