Interview with Amos Cassidy

Published 2016-07-01.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Hey, Cassidy here. I wrote tons of stories as a child but the one that stands out in my mind is a novella I wrote when I was thirteen years old. It was called Santa Claws and I typed it out on the typewriter my dad had bought me for my birthday. I was so proud of that story and writing it made me so happy! I realised for sure then that I wanted to be a writer.
What do you read for pleasure?
We read a little of everything. Horror, fantasy, sci fi, contemporary. Our reading tastes change dependent on our moods.
How do you approach cover design?
Amos here for this question. Cassidy designs our covers, she has a great eye for detail. Usually I just let her get on with it and wait in anticipation for the final product. Covers are her baby.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
*Amos looks at Cassidy, and they call out together* Kindle!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Cassidy: Gosh that's a hard one. We do a little of everything. We promote our books using professional promotion sites, We use facebook adverts and boosted posts when we have a new release or special offer and most of all we connect with our readers and keep them informed and up to date via our email reader list. Every reader who joins our lists gets a couple of free ebooks to get them in the mood for our brand of writing and we even have an exclusive email list for those readers wanting to get more involved. Check out our website and if our books sounds like your cup of tea then make sure to join our reader list :D

What do your fans mean to you?
Our fans mean the world to us. When we first started out on this journey we never thought we'd meet so many wonderful people let alone make so many awesome friends. The world is a large place and, yeah, we're probably never gonna see even a fifth of it in our lifetime, but through our books we've managed to reach across the oceans and shake hands with countless readers who have now become a part of our lives.
Our readers are our foundation. We would be lost at sea without them.
What is your writing process?
Cassidy: I usually have a rough idea of where I;m headed, and then I just write and let the story and characters take over. I'm a bit of a pantser to be honest. I do pause to take stock and outline from time to time though, even if I end up deviating from the outline in the end, lol.
When did you first start writing?
We both started writing quite young. It was eight years ago that we formed our partnership though. So glad we decided to co-author. It's so much fun working together. We have book meetings at our local eatery where we bag a booth and chat and eat and make notes. It's how we world build, by talking things through. It's how the characters are born.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Our latest book is set in a post-apocalyptic world heavy on the urban fantasy vibe. It's an idea we had a year or so ago but we weren't ready to write. It's since had a change to grow into something amazing and we're really excited about it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Our stories are very cross genre and at the time we started out we couldn't see where we would fit in a traditional market. Indie seemed a good option and we have loved the journey.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Escaping into another world and taking an exciting journey every day.
