Interview with Atlanta Hunter

Published 2018-08-27.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at fourteen. It was a way for me to get my feelings out and express myself. Like most teenage girls, I suffered from low self esteem and considered myself to be the "odd girl" who didn't seem to fit in with anyone. Writing became my outlet and I was able to escape what I was feeling. Before I knew it, my imagination took over and now I have all these stories coming to life.
Why do you love writing?
Writing takes me away to another world just like reading. While reading you're following the journey the author has prepared for you, but when it comes to my writing I get to create my own. Writing gives me the opportunity to express in a way I never imagined possible.
What are you working on next?
I'm still writing my True Love Series. Oceans Deep, sequel to Testing the Waters, is coming in October, and I think readers will like the continued story of Jamal and Yazmin. Book five of the True Love Series is in the works. It's called Back to Life and it's my first tackle at a romance with an age gap; they're roughly nine years apart, but the chemistry between them has them wondering if something serious is possible. Beyond Repair, which I had to postpone from publishing a couple of years ago, will be replacing The Journal in the series. I decided to make The Journal a stand-alone novel. The cover reveal though for Beyond Repair will be soon, so I'm excited! I recently went back and updated my book covers, so I'm looking forward to what my designer does with Beyond Repair.

I have a few more series in the works. One in particular revolves around sisters who meet their "ones" and fall in love during the Christmas season. Finally, I'm working on a interracial romance series that may be for a new adult audience, but I haven't decided yet. So a lot is going on behind the scenes and I look forward to the day when my readers get to read it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Love is behind this book/series. I thought it would be interesting to have a series where the characters were different. Readers will not be following one person but various ones. The difference is their individual lives but what brings them together is their need and want for love. That is what they all have in common. It's binds them together. I go from romantic comedies to stories with deeper issues. I hope readers will enjoy the many layers of the True Love Series and hopefully they will be able to relate to these characters in more ways than one.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love Turner Classic Movies, so if I'm not writing I'm usually watching one of the great classics. Recently, I've become a fan of Hallmark's Mystery Movies. Aside from that, I enjoy playing the piano, reading a new book, and listening to music.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was fourteen and I wrote it in a extra loose-leaf notebook that was originally for school. I wrote it by hand and it was at least seventy pages.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Honestly, I can't remember the first story I ever read. However, the first series I ever read was the Mandie books by Lois Gladys Leppard. Now that I think about it, it seems so long ago and I'm not even sure I remember most of the stories, but I know I loved them as a kid. I had never liked reading as a child since it seemed boring, but the Mandie books help me see reading as fun and adventurous. Now that I'm an adult, I can't imagine not reading.
