Interview with Erin Evans

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was homeschooled up until college by my mother, the author of the Kathy Duffy Top 100 "Learning Language Arts Through Literature." My siblings and I were the guinea pigs for this curriculum, which combines literature and writing skills. We were encouraged to write a short novel each year, and my kids still enjoy seeing my early works!
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing around 2007, I believe. I was a stay-at-home mom of 2, and the thought hit me, "How great it would be to have the super power of voice control!" I'm sure all other moms can relate!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm currently working on the 6th book in The Rhine Maiden Series. Its going to have a little Mission Impossible twist to it!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I spent some time trying to send my first novel to literary agents and it was just too time consuming. I didn't want to spend all my time online "stalking" people and formatting cover letters, I wanted to write. So, I self-published.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Not sure if you can call me a success....
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love telling a story that I want to read myself! I make myself laugh and cry when I write, and I love hearing that a reader has had the same response!
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans mean people who love to read and for some strange reason, have chosen to read me. If I can entertain someone enough to finish one of my books I consider that a beautiful compliment!
What are you working on next?
I'm working on "Rhinedrops Keep Falling on My Head," which will be the 6th book in The Rhine Maiden Series.

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children! I'm inspired by their screaming and thumping around to get up and make sure the house is not on fire!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have eight kids, one with special needs who is medically fragile, and they take up all my time and then some. We homeschool, (which is a real time saver when you think of all the time it would take getting out the door and driving to different schools), so that takes up a good chunk of our time.
