Interview with J. E. Warren

Published 2015-05-29.
How do you approach cover design?
I had a vision in my mind and bought the construction paper to do it, but I just agonized about it for two weeks until I made myself do it.
What do you read for pleasure?
The poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, Lalla, Bullhe Shah and Kabir.
When did you first start writing?
I was about 18 when I really started writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
To me the soul purpose of writing is expressing what wants to come out and through that revealing is the growth. I never chose what came out, which is the same way I play my flute, improvisation. It is a journey that changed, opened my world.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had all this stuff and didn't know what to do with it, so this seemed like the easiest option.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To sit back and stand in awe of what comes out. To me writing is becoming a scribe.
Who are your favorite authors?
Khalil Gibran, Bullhe Shah, Kabir, Hafiz, Rumi, Socrates, Lalla, Goethe
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My eyes open.
What is your writing process?
Sometimes driving in the car or taking a walk things come. Other times while playing the guitar words and images come. I mainly work off of inspiration or what is given to me and then weave things together.
Describe your desk
It's a mess, papers everywhere next to the computer with a guitar laying close by.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading or playing music.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about a fish going on a journey back home, which sounds a lot like Finding Nemo, but this was way before that movie came out.

Written in a poetic feel; it’s a soul on fire, a calling, an inspiration, a curiosity, a longing, a joy, a sorrow, a confusion, a disillusionment, an anger, a grief, a revealing, a dying and a becoming. It’s a conversation, a story, a song, a journey we all share.
