Interview with Grant T. Reed

Published 2014-07-01.
Favorite food?
Burgers. There's nothing like a BBq'd cheese burger and a cold beer .
Why do you write?
I spent so much time reading as a kid, and being exported to one magical realm after another, I wanted to provide some fresh stories and new fantastical realms to transport the next generation. I write in the hopes I can ease somebody's day by giving them a break from a hard day's work, and transport them someplace fun that will put a smile on their face (Like when I was a kid)!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Rejection from the publishing world! If you have faith in yourself and your product, sometimes you just have to keep on trying, even when others may not believe in you.
Favorite band?
Hmmm Good question. I listen to a lot of different music. If I had to pick a specific period I guess seventies rock is my old standby. I do listen to a range of music that covers everything from Katie Perry to John Denver to the Beastie Boys...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I write that last page, and I know I have told the story I set out to tell...there's no high like it!
What do your fans mean to you?
Who doesn't love their mother?
What are you working on next?
I might write something darker, sci-fi...not sure, I always have the next Vellian Mystery percolating in my mind.
Who are your favorite authors?
David Gemmell, George R. R. Martin, some oldies like Weiss and Hickman from when I was a kid.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Adventure. Whether it's searching out the next trout stream I want to explore, or the search for a good blue berry patch, it's the grand exploration that motivates me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Video gaming (RPG's), reading, fishing, hunting, and when I have to -- working computer jobs for the locals ;)
