Interview with C.J. Ayers

Published 2020-05-16.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend time with my family and create meals in my kitchen. I love entertainment, theatre, movies, music and art. I think that remembering that others in need should not be regarded less than the average person but part of the collective of humanity.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
It's very simple, as a young girl, my mother would take me and my sibling to the library and encouraged us to explore the world of literary arts. From that point, I fell in love with the written words and the adventures I explored. That allowed me to grow in my imagination where there were no limits. I have a maintained a love for the written word and exploration of my own imagination.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh my God! When I was in the fourth grade, I had an assignment to write a story using all of my spelling words. It was a story about a young girl who had lost her shoe and could not find it. As a result, she went on a great adventure to solve the mystery of the missing shoe. As a result of that story, I was named the best writer of the week. From that point on, my imagination had no boundaries. To this day, my imagination still has no limits.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is very simple. My mind simply generates a thought and from there, I expand on it creating worlds, places, people and adventures that I have never experienced before.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Sherlock Holmes. I love the adventure that goes with the mystery. It forces you to think outside of the normal boundaries. To not be held to one particular structured thought is the best part of the adventure. That's what writing is to me.
How do you approach cover design?
I take the body of the story, understand my focus and try to draw the audience into my vision. To allow them to see what I see is the story.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything. I have no limits.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Online so far although I now publish in paperback.
Describe your desk
Colorful with an abundance of ideas scattered everywhere.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Born and bread a southern girl, my southern roots inspire me to look beyond my city limits.
When did you first start writing?
When I was grammar school. I have always loved literature. I have always loved the ability to create something from nothing. To allow others to explore the vast universe.
