Interview with Willow Wildbrook

Published 2017-03-01.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a village. The woods are just down the road which is perfect for me; I used to play in them, now I walk in them with my camera. The woods are likely to have influenced my love of nature and wildlife.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in 2013. I wrote a few articles on wildlife gardening. My Smashwords account and the tiny ebooks I upload are my first foray into creative writing. I have done a bit of blogging prior to all this though.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book (Sydney Sparrow) aims is to inform, educate and inspire. I would like to increase public awareness of the plight of Sparrows and other wildlife and inspire people to help however they can; simply spreading the word helps.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Food! Sometimes the cat jumps on me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy going for walks, gardening, and photography. I am turning my garden into a wildlife garden which is documented on my blog.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story I read. I do remember The very hungry caterpillar and Roger red hat. And there was this book about a tiny guard dog I enjoyed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The initial idea, and the excitement that comes with it. The research is enjoyable and educational. I don't actually like writing stories very much! I think blogs, articles, and essays are more to my strengths, but if you don't try something new, you'll never know.
