While I thoroughly enjoyed the story line of this book, especially in regards to the Christian influence one of the main characters had upon others within the group he was in, I respectfully state that the book is in need of better editing. Many sentences are unwieldy and could be reworded in a more sensible manner, the punctuation has a lot to be desired in many places, and the header on each page reads "dilimma" when the word should be "dilemma." I mean this criticism in the most respectful and helpful way because I thoroughly enjoyed the book's content otherwise and appreciate the author's Christian beliefs and intent.

I will give Mr. Barnes one star for his correct or nearly correct assessment of the Mormon faith. His tags include Christianity, but his book does not make it clear enough what his true beliefs are. I did enjoy remembering my one trip to Boise, and a lot of the landmarks in his book were right on. But calling this a Christian book and then using his openly erotic, IMO, language and depictions, especially through one dream sequence? I don't think so.

Wonderful, WONDERFUL book! The author has so clearly depicted how a lost sinner can be saved through Christ's saving grace, even after suffering a horrible, horrible tragedy. One of my new and favorite Christian authors!
  • Broken: A story of hope and forgiveness on Jan. 06, 2014

I would first call this book a Christian novel about forgiveness, not so much a legal thriller. Otherwise, while I really enjoyed the book, it was a little disconcerting to begin with one character only to have very little to say about him once the story progresses; hence why I rated Mr. Smith's novel 4 instead of 5 stars. But I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
