Gregory Sandstrom

Biography

Gregory Sandstrom teaches sociology of media and technology at the European Humanities University in Vilnius, Lithuania. He studied in Canada (UBC & Laurier), the Netherlands (VU), and Russia (SpbGU/RAS) in the fields of sociology, philosophy and economics. Most recently, he completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Systems (IIMAS). The major focus of his work since 2003 has been to begin over-turning evolutionistic ideology in the human-social sciences (HSS). One way to do this is with an alterntive concept in 'human extension', that can be applied as a general method in HSS. He exercised the option of e-publishing his first short booklet on "Human Extension" as a way to circumvent waiting many months for a longer text to come to print. At this time, Gregory's application of Marshall McLuhan's notion of 'extension' is thought to be the first of its kind in the human-social sciences that involves (cooperative) extension services.
