The daily journal entries make the whole thing feel personal and real. He does whatever he can to figure out what will happen next, trying to save his family. The story makes you wonder how prepared each of us is for the worst? You really get pulled in, wanting to read faster, wondering what you'd do yourself if in a similar situation.
