Karen Schwind does such an excellent job on this novel that she leaves you wanting more. The plot line is so well thought out that I found myself enjoyably lost in a time and place I would not normally have sought as the author introduced me to the nuances of this era, the social values and mores ever at play. In no time, I began to feel as if I had been born and raised in 1919 North Carolina. The characters are so meticulously developed and multi-dimensional, that I was never bored or able to anticipate what would happen next. I read the whole thing on one day off. I look forward to her next book and hope it's a sequel.
