Our Authors:

Jay Sparks: Before I was a writer, I was a Meat Shop Boy at a grocery in Nevada, Missouri, slinging blood-soaked cardboard boxes into rat-infested trash bins and stacking soda pop crates in 100+ degree heat. Now I don't sling anything except words, guns, and softballs (well, before the concussion, that is).

Lisa Cindrich: I was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas and--after stops in Pennsylvania, D.C., Illinois, and Indiana--landed in Kansas once again. The second time around, Kansas stuck.

In 2001 I married "The Pearl of Strawberry Hill" (as my husband was dubbed by one of the longtime residents of the traditionally Croatian neighborhood where he grew up.) We have one beautiful daughter and a super sweet Brittany spaniel mix my husband rescued from the streets. (See what I mean about 'The Pearl?')

I've been writing since grade school. My first paid writing gig was a poem about field hockey read aloud at my high school's annual sports banquet. Since then I've moved on to historical children's fiction (In the Shadow of the Pali, published by G.P. Putnam) and the adult dystopian suspense of Executables.

My dream future? Write more novels, read more novels, drink a lot more coffee with friends and family, run an official 5K (hey, I want a medal!), learn to make tiramisu, visit a lot more beaches, and establish a dog sanctuary where stray and abused dogs can heal and frolic. (Just need a winning lotto ticket for that last one. Well, and for the whole beach thing too.)
