Trial and Triumph on Aug. 10, 2014

This is the first book of the author's I have read and I was captivated. Trial and Triumph is a personal portrait into the author’s life with chronic illness and chronic pain. She bears her soul, sharing intimate details about how her battle has changed her physically, mentally, and the ways Christ is transforming her. In the midst of her storm, God speaks through her words and she displays remarkable strength, hope, and courage. In each chapter, Gonzales includes some creative poetry which is the soul of this work. I am a chronic pain and illness survivor myself and chose to share this with friends who are are also ill. They enjoyed this book as well. I am looking forward to her next work! Favorite quote: “I want the people I cherish to feel cherished and I want the people I admire to feel admired.”

“Poetic Devotions for Those in Pain” by Mary Jane Gonzales has become my nightly devotional. This is a mixture of art and storytelling as Gonzales bares her secrets and communion with her Creator. It is so intimate and special, I just felt extremely privileged she shared this with her readers. There is no pretense in this poetry. It is completely straightforward and heartfelt excluding no one. Everything I’ve always wanted to say about my journey with chronic pain, she finally put into words. What a blessing!
