Robert Polsky
Biography
Robert Polsky grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance from Southwest Missouri State University. However, shortly after launching what had started out to be a successful career in commercial real estate with a large Houston real estate firm, Robert was stricken with a mysterious and debilitating health challenge.
The condition impacted the nervous system and was quite debilitating. Though doctor shopping and experimenting with medicines and therapies became a full time endeavor, none of them resulted in lasting or significant improvement.
Over several years, Robert became a researcher in his own right. Since medicines were obviously not the answer, he focused on natural therapies and practices, such as acupuncture, herbology, yoga, meditation, breath work, chi kung, and other Taoist practices.
The journey, eventually lead to living in India on two occasions for a total of about 3 years. There, Robert continued his studies and practice of Eastern philosophies, practice and medical therapies, including ayervedic and Tibetan medicine, acupuncture and body work.
The journey continued and resulted in living in SE Asia, where Robert regularly spent lengthy stays at Buddhist temples, where he practiced Vipassana or Insight meditation.
Along this journey, Robert had opportunity to study or spend time in the presence of some extraordinary Healers and Teachers. Some of whom are revered in their respective country. One such person was an 86 year old Tibetan monk, whom had been the personal physician of The Dalai Lama. The list goes on…..
It was this eclectic background of research and experience that eventually lead to the book Why You Suck at Weight Loss. In spite of the cute title, the book is actually the culmination of some of the most profound teachings from both Eastern and Western medicine, as well as the psychologically sound teachings of The Buddha.
