June is whimsical and precocious. Verse is responsible and down to earth. No one expects anything from June while everyone expects the world from Verse. The world doesn't want them to be friends. That's because in a world where humans are the dominant species over "Deviants", June is a Human Reject, and Verse is an Evolute Hopeful. In a world where they can't grow up together, they only grow apart. And while they both know no one is truly good, they both learn that everyone, even themselves, are a little evil.
