Interview with T.T. Floyd

Published 2020-07-28.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at the age of 10. My fifth grade teacher inspired and encouraged me to write poetry. I published my first poem in The National Library of Poetry's book called Journey's of the Mind when I was in the seventh grade.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Writing is my first love and as a creative I love having complete control over my work.
How do you approach cover design?
I usually try to use a scene from the book or a fun illustration that I think will catch the reader's attention.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I love spending time with my family, traveling, and binge watching my favorite television shows.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Liar's Club by Mary Karr - The story has a great balance of comedy and tragedy and it's poetic tone drew me in making me feel like I was a part of the family.
FlyGirl by Omar Tyree - This is one of my favorites because I love coming of age stories. I also loved watching Tracy evolve into a young woman and the feeling of nostalgia that it evokes of the hip hop culture in the 80's.
Dutch by Teri Woods - It's packed with action from the opening scene and I love Dutch's no nonsense character.
True to the Game by Teri Woods - I love the way Teri Woods captured the love between Quadir and Gena. This was the first novel that had me crying at the end of the book.
Push by Sapphire - I like how the book captures the progression of Precious' voice and her writing as she matures and becomes a better reader.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It was very important for me to try and cover all aspects of bullying in The Bully Brigade Series. The latest book The Bully Brigade: Headmaster Bully focuses on workplace bullying. I had always seen or heard about workplace bullying before I like many others became a victim of it and I felt that it was something that needed to be addressed.
