Interview with Erica Forrest

Published 2018-05-28.
What's the story behind your latest book?
While I was reading the Toad Words anthology by T. Kingfisher, I came across the loathly lady fairytale for the first time. I was immediately entranced by the idea of a gender-reversal of beauty and the beast, and just how dark the original Irish fairytale is - I started writing with the thought 'what if it was better for everyone if the curse had never been broken'
What are you working on next?
When I started Loathly, I had about 20 other fairytale retellings-in-progress. I'll continue picking away at them and see if any of them shape up to be a decent story worth publishing.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since I was nine years old. My first story was called Frostfire, about a wolf forcibly relocated from her pack and trying to find her way home. Then Alpha and Omega came out about a year later and I was terribly crushed that Holywood had stolen my idea and I didn't write anything more until I was maybe twelve or thirteen and I discovered paranormal romance.
What do you read for pleasure?
My favourite genres are historical romance, fantasy, and sci-fi, but I'm open to pretty much any romance! I especially love a torture hero or a wounded heroine. My favourite book of all time is The Last Hour Of Gann by R Lee Smith.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I currently have a Kindle Voyage but my heart belongs to my 3rd Gen Kindle Keyboard (RIP 2011-2017, crushed beneath my foot as I rolled out of a bed after a long night of reading)
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are everything! Knowing that other people enjoy your work is a bigger motivator than just writing for pleasure. So, if you want to talk to me, please do! I really would love to hear from you.
