Smashwords and ScrollMotion Announce Partnership to Create Mobile Apps for Indie eBook Authors and Publishers

New York, NY and Los Gatos, CA – May 4, 2011 – ScrollMotion (, creative leaders in the digital publishing business, and Smashwords, the leading ebook publishing and distribution platform, have announced today that ScrollMotion will create individual mobile applications for Smashwords' Premium Catalog of over 34,000 original ebooks. ScrollMotion will develop applications across a variety of mobile platforms including Apple iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and WebOS.  The relationship opens new distribution channels for Smashwords’ community of 18,500 independent authors and publishers.

Through the partnership, ScrollMotion will create, promote, merchandise and distribute Smashwords ebooks as mobile applications, across multiple application marketplaces such as Apple’s App Store, the Android Market, and the HP App Catalog.

Revenue from customers buying and downloading apps to smartphones and tablets will reach $38 billion by 2015, up from $2 Billion in 2010, according to Forrester Research.

Nearly 20,000 indie authors and publishers around the world use Smashwords to publish and distribute over 45,000 titles, of which 34,000 titles are now in the Smashwords Premium Catalog for distribution to major retailers.  In the last 30 days, Smashwords has released over 5,000 new titles, and the rate is increasing each month.

Smashwords authors and publishers will earn 60% of the list price of all apps sold.

Distribution to ScrollMotion will begin as early as mid-May, and is available to all Smashwords Premium Catalog titles.
