Anna Coleshaw-Echols

Biography

I'm Anna Coleshaw-Echols, and I would like to "gift" the world with public speaking skills in the hope of curing the debilitating and career-limiting fear of public speaking. I believe it can be done in just a few weeks if you follow my Giving the Gift program.

Ask yourself...

Are my past experiences the root cause of my public speaking fear today?
Can I leave those experiences in the past, treating them as learning experiences and not reasons for fear?
And if the answer is no, then ask yourself what would it take for you to leave those memories once and for all in the past?

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Your training path to fearless speaking is simply a series of steps up the speaking ladder, with each new step building on what has been already learned previously. Let's go on this journey together, one step at a time!

I strongly believe that anyone can become a fearless and effective public speaker, and I teach the principles and skills that make this possible. My former six-week course provided individuals with the opportunity to succeed as a fledging public speaker in a safe, organized and supportive environment where you could learn and grow your personal speaking style while also learning from your classmates. It was a fantastic program and provided a condensed version of the 12-month or longer program offered weekly elsewhere.

The hardest step in making any change is simply getting started. So as a first step I encourage you to read through my first eBook Presenting Fearlessly to begin to overcome your fears of public speaking.

I believe that once you get to the root of your fear, address it, and then move forward to conquering it through taking regular, weekly action -- that you will truly succeed in your given vocation.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
I used the NaNoWriMo.org writing process (National Novel Writing Month*), which encourages new writers to create 50,000 words in 30 days. Using that formula, you write about 1,700 words per day, which for me was the equivalent of a couple of blog posts. I found that I love writing! Plus, all the research that I had conducted over the past 15+ years while teaching my public speaking course (to hundreds of students) allowed me to "brain dump" all my knowledge into my laptop by simply using my facilitation workbook as an outline. By the end of the editing process six months later, my book had grown to more than 80,000 words -- much too big for a normal publication. Thus, why I suddenly find myself promoting two eBooks - Giving the Gift of Public Speaking and the first chapter of it, which is now a standalone publication - Presenting Fearlessly! And then after a summer of blogging about the many Do's and Don'ts of great public speakers I created a third eBook Avoiding Presentation Pitfalls: Public Speaking Taboos.

* NOTE: NaNoWriMo is always in November (and now in April and July too) and is primarily for fiction writers. However I used it to write my non-fiction work.
How did you approach cover design?
As my initial plan was to never release my eBook internationally, or even beyond the scope of my courses, I had a designer on Fiverr.com come up with the first design for the cover of Giving the Gift of Public Speaking. I loved it and the colours and everything, and from that my book had a look that stuck. Though for my first incarnation I used a high resolution image that I found on 123RF.com and created a very simple cover page to use while I was reincarnating my program for the United Way of Winnipeg. My best advice about cover design though is to hire yourself an excellent book design. For Presenting Fearlessly, I used a well known designer in Winnipeg and I highly recommend senjula.com if you want an amazing cover design! She made the design process super easy for me! Kimb also designs Speaker One-Sheets and works with professional speakers all over the world. She's very talented and I found her right in my backyard when I was living in Winnipeg!
