David Roos

Biography

David Roos is the author of The Chameleon from Hong Kong and New Age Superstar -- a pair of coming-of-age fictionalized memoirs based on the life of Clint Khatib, a globe-trotting, music-loving, gay teen growing up in the 1970s and 80s.

When not narrating the adventures of Clint, David can be found performing some of the hundreds of songs he has written at venues in Southern California and London. Like Clint, he is a world citizen and currently makes his home in SoCal with his husband Ian Challis and Border Terrier, Skipjack Challis-Roos. www.davidroos.org

Growing up in an expat-filled enclave of Hong Kong in the mid 1970s, Clint Khatib is an independent, thoughtful teen who loves music, movies, geography, and imagination. Oh, and he thinks he might be invisible. A reluctant encounter with a high-tech chameleon costume, a free-spirited grandmother, and an underage meditating faux-swami propel him on a journey spanning 2 decades and 4 continents.

A surprising set of seemingly-unrelated circumstances conspire to offer pianist Clint Khatib a rare chance to experience 1990's music industry first hand, from its highest highs to its lowest lows. When tastes of the record-buying public eventually turn away from the New Age genre, and "go Grunge," will it mean the end of Clint's career, or provide a path back to Xander, the love of his life?
