Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I began writing as Technical Writer. Creating Process and Procedures Manuals from Technical Requirements. The subject matter was often complex and difficult to understand. I tried to create a document that simplified complicated procedures and used real life examples to help the user understand. One day I met a gentleman that wrote novels. I commented to him that "I wish I could do that." His response was "If you can make people understand this complicated stuff, you can write a novel."

I believe that conversation was my first motivation. It wasn't until years later that I began to write a blog. Eventually the blog became a series of short stories. The rest is history.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I wrote was titled. "Chili Beef Soup". It was never published. I am not sure it was worthy. It made sense to me at the time. I don't think it would have been well received.

  • Remote Resort - Book One: Runaway on Dec. 30, 2019

This story has been done many times before. Some hidden site where they perform hedonistic rituals to satisfy the fantasies of wealthy eccentrics. There is nothing wrong with that idea. It is a premise that leaves a lot of room for the imagination. I think the author did a good job of taking the reader into another world where average people do not exist. The story is imaginative with a few twists. Fantasy at its finest. I would have given 5 stars, but the author got a little wordy at times. Often spending a lot of time describing things that weren’t meaningful. I prefer more concise writing. There were plenty of intense sex scenes. Although I got tired of the characters “groaning” their pleasure. If you enjoy fantasy and erotica there is plenty here to like. I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I did not receive any type of compensation for reading and reviewing this book.

I bought this book because I like mysteries. It turned out to be less of a mystery than a gritty crime drama. Set in a small town in the desert between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, the author paints a realistic picture of people living on the edge. When first introduced to the main character, Alex, you expect more from her. She had a hidden past that could have been better exploited. But the other characters, Ric and Stellar, pick up the slack and keep you wondering who the murderer is. It turns out there are several people with motives. Stranger: A Death Valley Mystery is in many ways a tragedy about the seedy side of life. It is an interesting and entertaining crime story.
