Nancy E. Shaffer has been an experimental psychologist, a philosopher, and a software developer. She taught history and philosophy of science at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec and the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Her philosophical work has appeared in the journal Philosophy of Science and her pop-culture philosophy website, All Things Philosophical on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series (http://www.atpobtvs.com/).
Her first novel, Dis/inhibition, turns a state university lab into an emotional crucible for exploring the complex relationship between a young neuroscientist and her mentor. Nancy is currently working on the first novel of a science fiction series, Aethersphere.
Science meets attitude.
Control freaks. Hot heads. Timid artists. Impulsive kids. Inhibition—or the lack of it—makes neuroscience graduate student Valerie Running Deer, her friends, and colleagues their own worst enemies. Dis/inhibition explores the complications of self-control both outside and inside the scientific laboratory.
