Roberta Rogow got her start writing for Star Trek fanzines in the mid-1970's. She mostly writes historical fiction, although she sometimes twists the history. Her most recent stories take place on a Manhattan Island that was settled by Spanish Moors instead of Dutch traders: Last of the Mohegans meets The Thousand and One Nights, with a Spanish accent.
Roberta retired from a 37-year career as a children's librarian in 2008. Lorr and Disorder is a return to her SF fanfic roots. She now lives in New Jersey, and spends her time going to science fiction and mystery conventions when she is not writing mysteries or singing filk (science fiction folk music).
In an alternate world where Manhattan is settled and run by Spanish Moors, a Danish mercenary turned king's agent arrives to retrieve a renegade and find out why the tax revenues are sinking far too rapidly. It's supposed to be an easy in-and-out, but nothing is ever that simple for Halvar, called The Hireling. It seems like either someone is being murdered, or someone is trying to murder him; and what was meant to be a short journey turns into a permanent job keeping the peace in Manatas.
Independent Eye Pola Drach isn't big on rules, but she does know her way around them. It comes in handy when it seems even the most mundane case always seems to end up in murder. Determined to avoid the pitfalls but somehow always managing to stumble into at least one, she lives surround by rogues, plutocrats, and all manner of strange folk, Pola's the sort of woman you want on your side if you need help.
