Sa'id Salaam

Biography

My love of literature came very early in life. It developed from my mom reading me bedtime stories. She was very animated when she read, using different voices for each character. I just couldn't believe all that action and adventure fit inside of a book!
My mother further nurtured my love of words by introducing new vocabulary words weekly. I was required to learn and use them in sentences.
Readers often tell me that reading my work is like watching a movie. It's like that for me when I write. I actually watch the scenes unfold before me. I can even hear the dialog and background noises. It's so very entertaining to me and I try to translate that when I write.
I've wanted to be an author since I was three years old. However my dreams got deferred by life. College, military, and children took precedence. It wasn't until my life got derailed by bogus murder charges in 2005 did I find free time to write. After reading absolutely every book in every genre the county jail had to offer I was left with no choice except to write my own.
The first story I penned ended up being THE CHAMP, from the chronicles of a junkie series. Drug addiction hit my family just as it has many others. Having witnessed the destruction first hand I could never glorify drug use or dealing. My books show the other side of the game. The ugly side. Even the Dope Girl series, despite the name is more a coming of age tale than a book about dealing.
I write every line with the realization that my books will be here long after I'm gone. The legacy I leave is more important than the money. Years from now my children's children's grandchildren will be able to proudly say my pop-pop wrote that.
