Ryan Wood

Biography

Ryan is a Fine Arts graduate of Ryerson University where he studied New Media as part of the 4 year Image Arts program. He has attended several artist residencies in Iceland where he examined the behaviour of light and created photographic and written works about the northern lights. His work has been shown in Iceland, Scotland, Canada and China. His photographs have received notable mentions from National Geographic and The Toronto Star. In 2014 he was awarded Artist of Distinction by the Queen West Artscape in Toronto.

Ryan is a visual storyteller who uses images and writing in an effort to make us think about our place in the world. The main focus of his work is to explore the relationships that we share with our environments. Always curious about our mysterious world he strives to explore and make new discoveries through his creations. He currently resides in eastern Canada.

Chasing Light is a collection of poems and images about the Northern Lights. Created over the course of 10 weeks in Iceland, this book is about spirits and omens from the past and encountering the elusive behaviour of the lights. It offers insights into how auroras are created and how the beautiful lights have a dark side that pose a potential danger to us.
