Interview with Aeris Stone

Published 2014-09-02.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to find an image that accurately reflects the content of the book as best I can. Trying to find something appealing but not too graphic is always tough. I'm also very new to any kind of photo editing so they're probably not as good as they could be. I'm learning though!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Oh I can only pick five? That's tough. I love the entire Darkfire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman. She is a wonderful author. I feel like saying Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings is a little cliche but there you have it. I mostly read fantasy novels. Escaping into worlds of magic is always a great way to spend an afternoon.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I still spend most of my time reading good old paperback books.
When did you first start writing?
I first really started writing in High School. I felt a lot of self doubt though and eventually stopped after being overly critical of myself.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Just to take a chance on my dreams. If I didn't I'd always wonder "What If?"
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating characters and telling a story. I love all of my characters no matter how twisted they may be.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first "real" story I ever wrote was called Evil Enigmas I believe. It was about a young wizard that falls to the dark arts. It was supposed to be a novel and I wrote two chapters before convincing myself it was terrible and never looking at it again.
What is your writing process?
I just write. I know a lot of people have outlines and plans but I just sit down and let the story take me where it wants to go. In my free time I'll think about what I'm writing and invent new points to explore or little things to add.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first REAL book I read was The Hobbit. Well, that my father read to me. It left a huge impression on me and my life and inspired a lifelong passion for the genre.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! Without them I'm just creating and leaving it to rot. To think that I put this much time and effort into something that is never read is a pretty depressing thought.
