Interview with Len Diamond
Published 2015-12-20.
When did you first start writing?
It must have started early, because I can't remember not doing it. Fiction is a recent addition, but working with words has been a constant.
Who are your favorite authors?
I've always liked William Saroyan's stuff. I'm not sure I can explain why; something about his sympathy for people, I think. I'm more about animals, though.
Why the concern with animals?
I think I was a Boston Terrier in a previous life, maybe had a hard time of it. Hoping to be something bigger next time around.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
What I remember is being introduced to the upstairs "children's" section of the 179th Street Public Library -- a life-changer. Not really knowing what it was, I checked out a copy of Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Probably responded to some cover art, which suggests a lesson: much as I hate to admit it, words alone may not be enough.
What was your approach to designing the cover of your novel?
I leaned on my friend Ed, a really good graphic artist. He got it in one.
Describe your desk
It's one-third cat. Squiggly sunbathes under the desk lamp, 20-22 inches; the rest is mine.

Dogpound Manifesto
by Len Diamond
In this humorous novel, an undistinguished young man inadvertently becomes a crusader when he impulsively hijacks an Animal Regulation Department truck and frees the animals it’s carrying. Actions of others lead to his arrest, and a trial where, with the help of a dirty, rotten, but gratifying trick the hero is acquitted, and the case for Animal Rights is made.
