Interview with Matthew Laxton

Published 2013-12-06.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, near the border with North York. It was a typical suburban neighbourhood, and I spent allot of my time hanging out with friends and family. The greatest influence it had on me was being able observe, and take part in the interactions of the people around me. The way we all interacted with each other finds it's way into the interactions of my characters.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was in high school. I went to Senator O'Connor College School, and was lucky enough to have teachers who encouraged me to continue to develop my style and skill.
What do you read for pleasure?
I typically read mysteries, and religious books. A well written mystery story is a good workout for your brain, and I find that religious books, like The Bible, and devotional books, are nourishing for your soul, and mind.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use a Kobo Touch. I find that they are reliable and durable. The display is very easy on the eyes.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is being able to create something that will, potentially, entertain my readers, while making them think about the deeper questions in life.
