Interview with Kristi Rimkus

Published 2014-06-01.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Seattle, Washington in a small suburb outside of the city. I've lived in Seattle my entire life, so the small town culture is a large part of my life experience, thus my writing.
When did you first start writing?
Five years ago when I started authoring a low calorie recipe blog, and writing articles for fitness websites.
What's the story behind your latest book?
When I lost 40 pounds more than 18 years ago, I had to find a way to family pleasing recipes for kids and husband that fit within my healthy lifestyle. I didn't want to have to make 2 or 3 different meals to please us all. Thus I learned to skinny up family favorite recipes by learning a new cooking style that I have a passion for sharing with others so they can see the same benefits I have.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It's a fun way to self publish and share my message that healthy cooking can taste great, and anyone can do it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I think food 24/7 and love to develop recipes. Writing allows me to share that joy of cooking with others.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! I love their feedback. They always have fun ideas to share.
What are you working on next?
My next project is a salad cookbook, but not just any salad cookbook, one that shares my view of how to create healthy salads.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The joy in knowing I have one more day on Earth to enjoy family, friends and my work. It's an attitude of gratitude.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work outside of writing, so much of my day is spent at work, cooking, gardening and doing yoga. I'm also training for my first 5k at age 54. Exciting!
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a variety of books, and love true crime mysteries. Cookbooks of course!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I adore my iPad!
