Interview with Emma Sydney

Published 2014-03-10.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search through Amazon and Smashwords 3-4 times a week looking for paranormal erotica which is my favorite. Also I check out new authors on Twitter. If I see a free read come across Twitter or Facebook I will usually download and review. On Facebook I pay attention to what other authors read and recommend.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was "Circling the Heart" which is a young teen story involving Calypso and Circe from mythology. The series is called Daughters of Calypso Deep and is published under Patricia Nunemaker. The second story "Circling the Fire" is the most current story available at this time. I must stress that these are not erotic stories and that is why I created the pen name Emma Sydney.
What is your writing process?
I write when I feel like it. There is no set schedule. I work full time in a hospital and take call several times a month. Usually I will have a dream and that sometimes turns into a story.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss (1972). A wonderful romance that influenced me to name my oldest son after the lead character. I read this book so many times the cover fell off!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I would have to say every book Kresley Cole and Marata Eros have written! The characters are entertaining, non-stop action and paranormal romance which I love. The last book I read was Reaper's Property by Joanna Wylde. Not paranormal but fantastic read if you like motorcycles and hot men!
What do you read for pleasure?
Usually paranormal romance or erotica. Have read some monster erotica which I have gotten a good laugh from. At the end of a bad day that can be a good thing!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Hands down my Kindle device but my phone works great when I waiting somewhere for an appointment.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Twitter, Facebook, Smashwords, and Amazon.
Describe your desk
The kitchen table!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Ohio but moved to Florida when I was a baby. At age 11 my family moved to Kentucky where I promptly picked up the local accent which will never leave me! Currently I live in a small town in Northern Indiana. I don't feel where I was raised influenced my writing one way or the other.
When did you first start writing?
Began toying with my writing during an English 101 class in 1992. Didn't actually publish a story until 2013. Better late than never!
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on an erotica called "Banging the Maintenance Guy" which should be completed in the next couple of months.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not working as a surgical nurse, I like to watch my favorite shows on DVR. I hate commercials! I just finished True Detective that was on HBO. Great show! I like The Originals, Lost Girl, Being Human, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. My ultimate personal favorite show is Justified on FX since my family is from Kentucky and I can totally relate!
