Interview with T.W. Moore

Published 2014-11-30.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
It’s a gift to be able to utilize our imagination. The thought of being able to turn a blank page into a cohesive and entertaining story that readers will enjoy is what inspires me each day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, working out and enjoying the outdoors.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search on the specific genre that interests me and often it's as simple as the cover that draws me in.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Absolutely. It was a short story about my Dad who was a truck driver for many years that I called "King of the Road". One day after badgering him numerous times he finally agreed to take me along on one of his trips. I was eight years old and we took a trip from New Jersey to Boston and I remember how exhilarating it was to be sitting so high up and seeing the world from a different perspective. I found it especially fascinating to look down upon the water below from a bigger than life bridge. It was both thrilling and scary - the same feelings I hope Razor King provokes in the reader.
What is your writing process?
I review a few pages from the day before to get me warmed up and to get the juices flowing. This helps me remember where I am in the plot line. I try to write at least six pages a day.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Although I don't remember a specific story, I've been a voracious reader since I was eight years old. I seem to be fascinated with many different genres -- whether it be fiction or non-action.
How do you approach cover design?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I try to encompass the main plot points in a visually-appealing manner while capturing the mood of the story.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read mostly sci-fi, archeology thrillers, historical novels and anything regarding the "Old West". I also enjoy apocalyptic thrillers.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have both an IPad and a Nook.
Describe your desk
Lots of sticky notes!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in New Jersey, near the Jersey shore. Bruce Springsteen was a major influence regarding my musical tastes and believe it or not, my older sister dated him - true story!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I wanted to write a novel that encompassed my alarm for global warming and the major technological advances that we've been seeing, especially in the field of nanotechnology.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Traditional publishing has become more and more difficult for the unknown author. Indie publishing provides a great opportunity for new authors to get their work in front of the readers.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I researched all of the major indie publishing resources and Smashwords was by far the easiest to work with and the most flexible. The ability to make changes and the author tools are superb. Without Smashwords, Razor King would still be just a word doc on my laptop.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My writing is epic in nature and one of the most satisfying aspects is being able to connect the many subplots in a cohesive and entertaining manner that readers will enjoy.
What are you working on next?
A young adult thriller titled "Circle of Stones".
Who are your favorite authors?
Dan Simmons, Justin Cronin, Andy Weir, Daniel Wilson and Jeff Guinn --- and of course, the master of horror himself, Mr. Stephen King.

Razor King is the story of one man’s quest to regain control of a technologically-advanced, yet environmentally-ravaged planet that through the advent of nanotechnology and trillions of hidden and embedded micro-cameras, has been taken over by two super-powerful, AI enhanced, quantum computers that not only have the ability to watch and dictate your every move – but also know what you think!
